Microbiome & Pregancy

The importance of the microbiome in preconception, during pregnancy and through recovery/breastfeeding.

Presented by Claire Barnes on behalf of Bio-Kult

A free webinar led by Bio-Kult, a specialist probiotics company, on the topic of the microbiome through pregnancy and beyond.

Synopsis:

Many physiological changes take place during pregnancy; some of which are still not fully understood. Recent research has highlighted the changes in the maternal gut microbiota, which appears to influence the immune and metabolic modifications, which are necessary for a healthy pregnancy.

In this presentation, Claire aims to provide:

  • An understanding of the necessary physiological changes that take place during pregnancy
  • An evaluation of the importance of the maternal gut microbiota during pregnancy
  • Evidence of how the maternal gut microbiota could have an effect on certain pregnancy complications and infant health
  • An evaluation of the current evidence for modulating the gut microbiota during pregnancy
  • An emphasis on the two key supplements currently recommended by the NHS during pregnancy
