Elderberry/Covid-19 trial

Members Only

Following the encouraging news the East Kent Hospitals are undertaking a trial into the use of elderberry to treat Covid-19, Phil Deakin, the Institute's President has written to the Director of Research at the Trust to acknowledge the trial and offer our practical support.

The team at the Trust are the first in the country to trial the use of Sambucol Black Elderberry liquid in patients who are being treated for coronavirus, and they are explicitly referencing its use as a popular herbal remedy.

They proposed the study after hearing about previous research which showed black elderberry fruit or extracts had antiviral properties against flu and a type of herpes. It has been adopted by the National Institute for Health Research.
