As you will be aware, the vast majority of legal restrictions in place in England relating to the Coronavirus pandemic will be lifted from Monday 19 July. Around the rest of the UK, Scotland will move to alert level zero on 19 July (with the intention to end all legal restrictions on 9 August), Wales will move fully into alert level one from 17 July, whilst Northern Ireland is aiming to complete its roadmap out of restrictions by the end of summer.

As each part of the UK moves out of having legal restrictions in place, we wanted to outline what this means for our guidance for members practising in these countries.

In essence, our guidance remains just as valid whether restrictions are in place or not – whilst some people may feel comfortable moving to in-person consultations with to mitigations in place, others may not, so even if there is no longer any legal requirement to, our guidance remains that you should:

  • Undertake a risk assessment to look at your clinic space, your personal preferences and healthcare needs, and those of your patient(s)
  • Understand the guidelines put in place by others if you rent clinic space
  • Think about any screening you might wish to undertake for your patients
  • Clearly communicate what consultations will involve to your patients before they come to see you

It may be that after doing this you, and your patient(s), are happy to undertake a face-to-face consultation with no risk mitigations in place, you may wish to keep some measures (e.g. hand sanitising and ventilation), or you may feel it is appropriate to use masks, PPE and social distancing within consultations. Ultimately this decision will lie with you and your patient(s), and you should put in place whatever you feel is appropriate.

Our priority is the safety of practitioners and patients, so if you would like to discuss how you respond to these changes in your practice please do get in touch with our office team, whilst further details on what these changes mean where you practice can be found below.
