Managing abusive patients

Members Only

There have been a few instances in recent months where members have sought support from us when patients have become angry and abusive towards their practitioner. This has taken a number of forms, and our advice has always be the same – the patient practitioner relationship can be terminated by either party, and you are well within your rights to terminate the relationship if you feel in any way uncomfortable.

Please get in touch if patient behaviour or correspondence rings alarm bells in any way, and we will do everything we can to support you through this. You don’t need to wait for the behaviour to reach a certain level, we will gladly discuss a situation with you no matter how insignificant it may feel. Luckily the vast majority of patients are a pleasure to work with, but please use the support available for the very rare situations where issues arise.
