UK Lockdown Letter

Members Only

As the UK enters a further period of tighter restrictions, which may have the potential to impact members wider lives in a number of ways, we want to offer you all the support we can to manage these impacts.

Although we have, as part of the IHC, been lobbying the government to recognise the invaluable service our members have been providing throughout the pandemic by designating them as critical workers, as yet the government have not taken action on this.

The official government definition of critical workers in Health and Social Care is:

“This includes, but is not limited to, doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributors of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.”

Despite this, and given that for the time being members are able to continue to practise and dispense herbal medicines, we have written a downloadable letter to confirm this that you may find useful to present to schools, childcare settings or anyone else who seeks confirmation of your herbalist status. In order to remain factually accurate the letter does not state members are critical workers (as this term is legally enforceable), but it does highlight that you are all making a huge contribution to the nation’s health.

Please note that this letter reflects our guidance that members are able to consult as legally, procedurally, and clinically appropriate, and in line with patient and practitioner safety guidelines. It remains accurate even if you choose not to undertake face-to-face consultations, or if our guidance changes at any point to advocate remote consultations only. The letter is not an endorsement for undertaking face-to-face consultations regardless of our guidance or government legislation.

Our office team will gladly respond to specific enquiries from anyone you present the letter to, and if you have a specific scenario that we can provide any assistance or guidance for please do get in touch.
