Dedj trained in nursing on leaving school and after a break for having children she trained for four years in Western Herbal medicine, qualifying in 1992. Having variable success with dermatology she then trained in Chinese Herbal Medicine, (which has an excellent reputation in this field) qualifying in 1997. This 2 year post graduate course concluded with 6 weeks full time clinical practice under supervision in China.

In 2006 Dedj undertook a further 4 year BSc (Hons) degree in acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. Dedj is part of the Conventional Medical Science teaching team at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. She is a past Director of Education for the National Institute of Herbal Medicine and a clinical examiner at Middlesex University. In 2013 Dedj was awarded a Fellowship of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists; “in acknowledgment of her professional attainments and the great services which she has contributed to the science and practice of Medical Herbalism”.

Dedj is a qualified Emergency Medical Technician and First Aid trainer. She founded the ‘Medical Herbalists’ which is a changing group of qualified and undergraduate herbalists who provide Herbal First Aid and Acute Medical Services at festivals.

Dedj’s approach to treatment is to integrate Western Herbal Medicine, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture; drawing on both Eastern and Western Medical traditions for a treatment strategy. She also offers dietary and lifestyle advice if appropriate. Her special interests are Acute Medicine, Dermatology and Gynaecology.

Dedj regularly teaches and is committed to her own professional development. She has an extensive dispensary of both Chinese and Western Herbs.

Food intolerances may well be present in most people with chronic ill health, so it is vital to be able to discover which intolerance is present in order to treat the problem. During this session, Christine will look at the different ways of determining which food someone is intolerant to; the various possibilities from the more common dairy and salicylate intolerances to the less frequently seen nightshade, oxalate or histamine sensitivities; and then follow on with the best ways to treat the gut with herbs and natural healing in order to improve any digestive symptoms and prevent further sensitivities.

Christine Herbert FAMH, DipAET, BA (Hons) qualified as a herbalist in1997, after spending nineteen years in the NHS as a biomedicalscientist. She retired from practice in 2019 in order to dedicate her time to sharing her knowledge through teaching and writing. Christine is an Honorary Fellow of the Association of Master Herbalists. In her twenty five years of herbal practice, Christine Herbert has treated a plethora of patients, whose issues more often than not stemmed from problems with digestion. Aeon has recently published her third book ""Digestion, the Key to Good Health".

Kylie Griffiths grew up in London and spent her career in the fast-paced worlds of fashion and music. She served as the fashion editor of VICE UK and worked as a celebrity stylist, collaborating with artists like Little Mix, James Arthur, 5SOS, and touring with One Direction. However, the demands of her career began to take a toll on her health.

After experiencing persistent skin breakouts, slow-healing wounds, and a blood infection while working in LA, Kylie was forced to confront the impact of stress and poor self-care on her well-being. This turning point sparked her journey to understand the root causes of her health challenges and reclaim her vitality.

Today, Kylie is the founder of Many Lives, a health coaching practice that takes a holistic approach to well-being, incorporating EFT, Reiki, and energy work. She also runs Stress Sucks, a platform dedicated to helping individuals manage stress through meditation courses, workshops, and one-on-one sessions.

Kylie is a certified Health Coach through CNM, a Reiki II practitioner, an EFT practitioner, and a trained meditation teacher with the British School of Meditation. She is currently training to become a Herbalist at Lincoln College, where she is studying for a BSc in Herbal Medicine.

An introduction to permaculture and how to apply it to create herbal medicine gardens. An interactive workshop giving a basic understanding of permaculture, and an introduction to using permaculture design and showing how it has been used to create three herbal medicine gardens so far.

Klaudia van Gool has taught permaculture since 2007 . She particularly enjoys teaching people care tools and personal design. She is a final year student of herbal medicine and loves the similarity between permaculture and herbal medicine. She also has a fascination with ceremony and is an eco-facilitator with range of tools. All these fit into her aim of bringing more connection, healing and empowerment so humans can live as part of the Earth once again, creating a thriving future for those yet to come.

Following the birth of her son, Sonya regularly went for slow countryside walks and realised she felt better than she had in years, despite the 'New Mum' struggles.

Fuelled by her ignited curiosity, a couple of years later she left the corporate hustle and spent 18 months retraining as a Forest Therapy, EcoNIDRA and Mindfulness Guide, after walking away from Seasonal Affective Disorder and becoming a winter-lover.

Sonya has since led more than 300 Forest Bathing events and In 2024 she won the FSB Award for the Best Self-Employed Business in the South East. She runs 3 hour Forest Bathing events in Hampshire and her acclaimed and accredited Forest Bathing Guide training programme runs in Hampshire and online.

During this session I will share on my work at Hedge School, my work [IN RAPE CRISIS CENTRES IN WEST YORKSHIRE] & the progress I am making across communities to replenish relationship with kith & kin.
Fundamentally, I want folk to walk away from this session feeling both inspired & more knowledgeable. I'd like folks to leave feeling they have a deeper understanding of working-class communities & how they could reach out, to share plant work with those who have least access to it.

Hannah-May is the Founder of Hedge School, a school that seeks to replenish relationship between kith & kin through plant work, traditional skills & unruly education. She is a writer, educator, community herbalist, forager & multidisciplinary artist. She is currently embarking on a PhD, developing a critical pedagogy of recovery, researching the history & cultural reproduction of enclosure, corporealisation & the impact this has on working class female survivors from post-mining communities in the UK.

Different drying methods, different preparation methods such as oils, tinctures etc. Ways to use herbs as food and medicine, jellies, cordials, infused salt etc .I sometimes hold this as a workshop where everyone makes something to take away (dependant on budget) or as a demo where I show them how some of the methods are carried out.

Cary-anne is a forager, author and herbalist. From a very young age she would spend all of her time in the garden with the plants making potions. As a teenager, she studied herbs and made her own preparations. In adulthood she studied an homeopathy degree and grew her own herbs. She now teaches foraging, is the author of Foraging and Folklore - The Wheel of Nature, a monthly calendar of UK foraging with plant identification, medicinal benefits, folklore and practical recipes, and spends summers giving talks and workshops at festivals.

Lydia's Plant Poets session will offer tips and guidance on writing a poem about plants. This workshop will lead you through writing a botanically inspired verse, whether you are an avid poet or someone with an interest in writing who is unsure of where to start. From sonnets to free-form we will explore different forms of verse and how they can be used to aid us in putting pen to paper. Plant allies have inspired poets for centuries and you are invited to join us in this fun activity to create more wonderful words about plants.

Lydia is a qualified medical herbalist and registered member of The National Institute for Medical Herbalists (NIMH). After working across the creative and natural health industries in London for many years Lydia returned to Yorkshire to regenerate her hometown’s local herbalist practice and health food store; Jackson’s The Herbalists Est. 1933. She is thrilled to be part of maintaining this valuable corner of herbal history. Lydia currently sees patients 1-2-1 at a multidisciplinary practice in both Yorkshire and London and has written for several publications on the topic of natural health and organic gardening.

Lydia is a keen advocate of organic gardening and has been guest speaker at various events including Gardener’s World Live. She runs the popular Instagram page @yourorganiclydia in her spare time where she features life on her family small holding.

Research increasingly shows that trauma can negatively impact many aspects of a person's life, including their health, well-being, and relationships.

There is also an increasing interest in how to support trauma and how to create trauma informed spaces.

Our holistic approach as herbalists places us in a good position to integrate this understanding into our approach and treatment plans.

How do we make our clinics safer spaces? How do we ensure our treatment is as effective as possible, and how do we not exacerbate trauma within the consultation?

This workshop will cover:

• An Introduction to trauma, the brain and the body
• The principles of trauma-informed herbal practice
• Practical strategies for supporting people who have experienced trauma
• Space for questions and resources for further information

Becs Griffiths and Annwen Jones, are herbalists in Bristol who run Rhizome Community Herbal Clinic. They were both part of founding Herbalist without Borders, Bristol and the Radical Herbal Gathering. Both have a specialist and personal interest in how trauma is understood and supported.

Charlie has been a gardener for over 30 years, adding a more recent business, working with cut and dried flowers. She now also runs several workshops teaching gardening skills, craft using dried flowers and gardening-based craft for children.

Join Kim for a brief excursion into working with willow, to sculpt your own small creature.

Professional willow sculptor, Kim Creswell MNIMH, author of 'A Celebration of Willow', will guide you through the basic techniques required in the creation of 3D withy art, while discussing the virtues of this ubiquitous plant. Willow provided, just bring your hands and imagination.

Kim Creswell is a willow sculptor, painter of horse drawn caravans, and medical herbalist. Kim’s unique skill set has been refined by her deep green lifestyle, submerged in the British countryside, working with the wilds.
Deeply held environmental and political beliefs led Kim to a nomadic life at an early age. Travelling for many years with a horse and wagon, Kim developed and refined hedgerow sculpture techniques.
During her thirties, Kim purchased a plot of mono-crop land at auction and, employing traditional methods, has actively supported its regeneration. Twenty years on the land is now an off-grid nature reserve and small holding which supplies a vast array of food, medicine and craft materials.
Kim qualified from Heartwood Professional Course in 2021, established 'Goldberry Herbs', founded the registered charity 'Nature Watch Group', and now spends her time taking patients, weaving willow, maintaining her small holding and nature reserve, being a Granny, and working with the wildlife charity, raising awareness and promoting biodiversity.

Join Becky for a walk with the plants together!

During this workshop you will experience a sensory exploration of the plants we discover as we wonder around the grounds. With less emphasis on what they are and how we can work with them, we will honour the plants by spending time with them.
Noticing how they move in the breeze, smelling their scent, feeling their textures…lying on the ground with our hearts close to the earth, what will it and the plants tell us?
Everyone will be provided with a nature journal to record their experiences and take it home so they can continue their journey.

Join Steve for an evening of herbal story telling. The session will open with an ancient Celtic folk tale of herbal healing, allowing the wisdom of ancestral voices to be shared again. We will share some other stories of our local herb lore, followed by an invitation for anyone to offer a story, song or music to help the evening along. If you are inspired to contribute please let Steve know beforehand.

Steve Taylor has been practicing as a herbalist for 30 years. As well as continuing to practice he also has a passion for sharing the traditional wisdom of plants and medicine. He is the Author of 'The Humoral herbal' which describes how practitioners can use the traditional Humoral medicine of Galen and Culpeper in a modern herbal practice. He has researched many traditional herbal uses of the British native flora, and has conducted in depth research on using fresh herbal poultices for slow healing wounds. He is a tutor for Heartwood education and regularly teaches for a number of other herb schools.

Simon will explore the evidence that our gut and its microbial inhabitants metabolise some of our herbal constituents, and process them from being relatively inaccessible into new active agents. He will argue that herbs thus become ‘postbiotics’, and that these insights can powerfully inform our strategies in practice.

I am a Cambridge medical sciences graduate and have been a herbal practitioner in Exeter since 1977. In that time I have led the main professional and trade organizations for herbal medicine in the UK and served on Government and House of Lords committees. I have written standard textbooks used by herbal practitioners around the world, including with Professor Kerry Bone from Australia.

I was involved in academic work for many years, co-founding the University of Exeter pioneering Centre for Complementary Health Studies in 1987 (where we built a complementary research and postgraduate teaching programme from scratch), then at Peninsula the first integrated health course at a UK medical school, and the first Masters degree in herbal medicine in the USA, at the Maryland University of Integrative Health.

In this talk, medical herbalist and astrologer Marcos Patchett shows through real-life case histories how astrology can be used to assist prescribing herbal medicines, and demonstrates with more complex examples how this ancient metaphysical method can be a useful treatment guidance system when used alongside more conventional and current diagnostic techniques.

Marcos has practiced as a medical herbalist for twenty years, initially specialising in complementary care for people living with HIV, and practicing from Neal’s Yard Remedies Therapy Rooms in London. He worked as a dispenser in Middlesex University’s training clinic for their Western Herbal Medicine BSc in 2009-2010, and later as a clinical supervisor for the Western Herbal medicine BSc and MSc courses at Middlesex from 2013-18, and for Westminster University in 2021-22, and for Heartwood online in 2020-23. Marcos is a student of Renaissance and classical astrology, an affiliate tutor for Kepler College in the U.S.A., the UK Qualified Horary Practitioner (QHP) school, and a faculty member of the Academy of Astrology UK. His first book, The Secret Life of Chocolate (thesecretlifeofchocolate.com), was released in 2020, and the smaller “paperback edit”, Pharmakakawa, was released in November 2024. He launched Plan*tarium, a school of medical astrology for herbalists, therapists, and medical practitioners, in September 2024

Come and learn about natural skincare products from Dr Sally Gouldstone, a botanist, passionate nature conservationist, and founder of the UK's first Wildlife Friendly skincare company Seilich Botanicals (also to be found on our Herbal High Street!). Natural Skincare products are often marketed as being 'good for you and good for the planet', however many of the ingredients used in these products are either grown or harvested using unsustainable techniques, or combined with other ingredients that aren't very good for our health. During this session we'll take a deeper dive into the natural skincare industry, and provide you with the techniques you need to grow, harvest and make your very own products, which are not only good for your health, but good for the earth too!

Dr Sally Gouldstone has spent over 20 years working in the nature conservation sector before starting her very own Wildlife Friendly certified company, Seilich Botanicals. Seilich demonstrates a nature positive, circular business model whereby the natural ingredients they use to make their natural skincare products and herbal tea's are grown in wildflower meadows, with the profits used to create more spaces for nature each year. Sally is a passionate advocate for natural ingredients that are good for nature, and alongside running Seilich, works as a lecturer in Ecology at the University of Edinburgh, and a Research Scientist for a Scottish conservation charity.

Join Emma Lou and Juin as they introduce the steps of 'Morning Altars' a creative practice which nourishes the spirit through Nature, Art and Meaning making, and also the concept of healing through playful interaction with nature.
When so much of our time as healers and herbalists is dedicated to the needs of others, this is an opportunity to slow down and deepen relationships with our kin in nature.

Emma Lou is currently studying to become a Morning Altars practitioner and certified teacher having taken a year out from her studies in medical herbalism with Betonica. Originally from Belfast, Emma’s love of art and nature led her to study Landscape Architecture specialising in Art in the Landscape. 10 years’ experience of working as a secondary school art teacher led her to diverse teaching experiences ranging from setting up an art department in a rural school in Botswana to being head of department in a school for boys with behavioural problems in the north of England. She currently lives on a rustic smallholding in SW Cornwall and offers incense crafting workshops from her shop ‘Sheikyerbooty’ in Falmouth.

As a child of profoundly Deaf parents, Juin’s first playmates were the plants and trees in her family garden in Shropshire. She listened and played with them and her connection with nature continues to be deep and heartfelt. Juin has a background in permaculture and is a nature based Celebrant, having trained with Glennie Kindred in 2017. She came to Earthart while making flower essences for her Wildheart Alchemy range in the sierras of Andalucia. While sitting with the plants she often felt inspired to make a little offering of gratitude from the leaves and twigs around her. This led her to find other people online making flower mandalas including Day Schildkret. Juin took part in the first cohort of Morning Altars practitioners and certified teachers and continues to tutor in the school. She is passionate in seeing others reawaken to the natural world and makes Earthart for all kind of life events, sharing these skills in workshops and celebrations.

Join expert grower Tasha Elena Stevens in learning the practical steps needed to grow your own outdoor mushrooms using log growing or bed cultivation methodologies.

Tasha holds an outdoor mushroom farm that produces half a tonne of mushrooms per year, including Shiitake, Chicken of the woods, Beefsteak fungi and Medicinal mushrooms including Native Gonoderma and Birch Polypore. Touch, taste and smell the samples created from the mushroom farm.

In this session you will get to learn about how this technique can elongate the life of the tree and understand the differences between an indoor grown and an outdoor grown mushroom when it comes to nutrition and phytonutrients.

Tasha's expertise and passion lie within taking a wild-tending approach and in recent years has focused on our native edible and medicinal strains, cloning them in the wild and brining the into her mushroom farm. She believes the most effective medicines are growing all around us and need to be consumed preventatively as well as curatively and has made it her mission and profession to produce this food as medicine, sustainably at reasonable scale. She takes this same philosophy and applies wild- tending approaches to growing tree crops including sea buckthorn, hawthorn, rosehips and elderberries.
In this tactile session you will get the opportunity to see how to inoculate a log, learn about the kit needed and what works and what doesn't. And gain an insight into how to consume the mushrooms to make the most bioavailable and therefore beneficial including tips on how to deepen and further your knowledge.

Working in small groups participants will discuss a brief case history & then, by consensus, decide upon a possible treatment plan with their prescription to be presented to the other groups in the form of a posy picked on site.
This is not a taught session - it is about sharing information and working together upon something that is usually done alone.

This session is aimed at practising herbalists or final year students.

Although Bendle has been a herbalist for over 30 years (including over 15 years of working as a herbalist in an NHS setting) he thinks of himself as a beginner in the practice of herbal medicine. He is delighted to keep exploring and learning new facets of the craft and science of his profession and of subjects that illuminate it from psychology & natural history to art and anthropology.
In 2024 Bendle was awarded a fellowship of the NIMH.

A connection with the plants Bendle uses in his practice is important to him, so he grows some herbs and makes some of his own medicines. Bendle teaches on the Heartwood course where he aims to share his enthusiasm for the plants, medicinal or not, that grow around us.

How do you feel in the herbal world? Working within diversity between us as students and practitioners and the plant kin realm leads us to question how we can find connection or reconnection to a sense of belonging.
This space is open to all and especially those from any marginalised identity or community, together we will create a session that is nourishing and explorative. I will bring elixirs and herbcraft to tend (perhaps we will make a burnstick each or weave a medicine of soul...let's see in July).
The hope is to share experiences, to find our voices, to share stories for the good of the community but with the care of self in mind too. You are very welcome here.

Join Lucie as she helps you gain confidence through sharing my experiences of treating children via case studies of children/ babies. I can share and give guidance on protocols for beginning treatment. And will talk through any red flags or issues that may arise so you can feel more prepared and equipped to access patients of all ages
I have been treating children in my practice for just over 10 years - at first I too lacked confidence (not through lack of training as I studied at SSHM), and it's totally understandable. But I also had a young child and adamantly knew her first line of medicine would be herbal. So I gained confidence by treating her and then applying that confidence into my clinical practice. When I had my second child in 2020, the same rules applied, we used herbal medicines at home and my confidence was growing. I now treat a substantial amount of babies and children and firmly believe that herbal medicine is not only safe, it is highly effective for kids and they respond remarkably. I also know that the pharmaceutical alternative is inferior and has many negative side-effects such as those on the gut microbiome.
I'll deliver case studies, go over treatment plans/ protocols and give handouts of guidelines.

Lucie is a Glasgow-based medical herbalist offering treatments and herbal remedies. Since graduating from the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in 2008, Lucie has built a thriving practice dedicated to improving health and wellbeing through natural methods. She provides personalized advice and support, drawing on her extensive experience to help clients address a wide range of conditions. Beyond her private practice, Lucie also runs an online shop and membership site. A passionate advocate for family health, sovereignty, and postpartum care, Lucie balances her successful business with raising her two daughters, ages 4 and 11.

Natasha Richardson has a BSc (Hons) in herbal medicine and a master’s in the history of women’s medicine from The University of Oxford. Having struggled with her menstrual health, followed by an unsuccessful search for proper treatment, Natasha applied her scientific knowledge to create her herbal remedies. Today, Forage Botanicals offers natural products expertly made by her, personalised 1:1 treatment plans, and online courses for empowering menstrual education, menopause, and more. She ran a successful clinic for over 10 years helping with menstrual complaints from menarche to menopause before writing her book ‘Your Period Handbook’. Now she has a team that takes patients while she focuses on product development and community relationships.

In this workshop Elisabeth will be talking about issues raised in her book, Ageing Gracefully (Aeon 2024), which discusses the common issues associated with growing older and gives insight and practical advice on how to stay healthy and happy in later life as well as treatment approaches when working with the elderly.
We all grow older (if we are lucky) but modern culture is obsessed with staying youthful; ageing is seen as a failure or something to avoid at all costs. Yet, in the Blue Zones, people live long, happy, and healthy lives.
In this talk, Elisabeth will discuss the factors these populations have in common.
The so called ‘illnesses of old age’ are not inevitable and decline can be reversed by addressing several areas including: choosing a simple, wholesome diet, adequate sleep and exercise which all contribute to a healthy body and a healthy brain. Connection with others is something we often lose as we age, yet purpose, community, gratitude, and friendship play a vital role in staying healthy and happy.
A good death is also an issue which the practitioner may encounter, approaches to dying will be discussed.
Elisabeth will discuss practical ways the practitioner can work with elderly patients to support a healthy lifestyle and also how to age well ourselves.

Elisabeth qualified as a Medical Herbalist in 1980 with the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, winning the Pharmacology prize. She ran a training clinic for herbal students on behalf of NIMH at Highgate Natural Health Centre 1980-2 and was a tutor at the School of Herbal Medicine Tunbridge Wells 1979-84, in Clinical Skills, Pathology and Pharmacology. Elisabeth had a private herbal practice in London 1979-1989. She taught the first Adult Education evening class in Herbal Medicine in London in 1981 at the Chequer Centre Islington, and devised and taught adult education in Herbal Medicine and Women’s Health at the City Lit, WEA and ILEA until 1989.
In 1989 she worked with the Catholic Institute of International Relations, first in Nicaragua and then in The Dominican Republic, researching Traditional Medicine. She remained in the Dominican Republic until 1999 working with Traditional Medicine in Villa Mella and La Romana.
Elisabeth has taught workshops all over the world. Recently she ran workshops in Magical Herbalism and Astrology and Herbalism at the Radical Herb Gatherings 2015 and 2016 in England. She is a guest tutor at Heartwood School of Herbal Medicine and has lectured at the University of Westminster in Traditional Western Herbal Medicine.
She trained as a Psychosynthesis counsellor with Diana Whitmore and Pierro Ferucci, graduating in 1989. Elisabeth has a private practice in counselling in London, specialising in working with creative professionals, including students and tutors from RADA.
She studied and worked with Maggie Hyde and Geoffrey Cornelius of the Company of Astrologers from 1980-1989. I tutored in Medical Astrology for the Company and produced articles for their Magazine.
Elisabeth has a BA (hons) and a MA in Classical Studies writing on the Gorgon/Medusa.

The Japanese art of Forest Bathing is a gentle practice, which guides us to connect with nature through our senses in simple, playful activities. We slow down, drop our habit of endless thinking, and sink into Forest Mind - absorbed, calm, very present and alive. From that place, we perceive the world anew, as if we’ve put on a magical pair of spectacles. Looking, touching, smelling, tasting (and even listening to) a plant brings fresh understanding and insights. What's more, it's enjoyable, and good for us!
In this session I’ll touch on specific research which shows the remarkable benefits of this practice, for our health and wellbeing - including reducing blood pressure, pain perception, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. The session will also be experiential, reflective, and interactive, as I guide you through some Forest Bathing Invitations to experience this simple-yet-profound practice for yourself.
I feel these nature connection practices can partner well with herbalism in several ways. Firstly, as a personal practice, they help us deepen our relationship with plant-kind - as a vegetable gardener I have learnt so much from plants by relating with them in this way. And if you work with plants in some way, these simple Invitations can help you engage your audience in very physical and memorable ways, for example in a talk, or at a farmers market.

I began working in Nature Connection in the 1980s, taking city children into the woods to meet and become comfortable in the natural world. Kemar Tucker - Medical Herbalist (BSc Hons). A passion for medicinal herbs started in Jamaica where Kemar grew up in the Blue Mountains with his grandparents.

Moving to the UK when he was 16, Kemar's passion for herbal medicine continued to grow as he connected with medicinal plants in the UK.

Kemar graduated from Westminster University in 2023 with a degree in Medical Herbalist (BScHons). Kemar uses both ancestral wisdom and current medical (scientific) research to guide his practice for promoting, recommending and crafting herbal medicine for the community.

A herbal study/ sensory herbalism workshop taking a dive into the sensory science of a plant medicine.
The session allows us time to connect with a native European medicinal plant through a tea tasting and somatic practice which aims to reawaken our primitive ability to identify the medicinal properties of plants through the use of our senses.

This study offers a unique and personal connection with the plant wisdom through experience whilst deepening our understanding of the science of taste. This practice allows us to learn independently of books and ‘taught’ therapeutics.

Ruth guides us through the practice which begins with sharing a fresh herbal infusion. We will drop into our senses to channel information about the plants unique qualities. After group sharing and a deeper dive into the plants full profile Ruth will discuss the 7 tastes and how they relate to different groups of phytochemicals and nutrients, tasting different herbal extracts along the way.

Sensory plant studies are a key learning tool that truly allows us to connect with plant medicines and our own primitive sense, identifying how we may understand plants intuitively as well as sensorially. In collating the group findings we often demonstrate the uniqueness of our constitutional alignment with certain plants and energetics.

No need for previous experience or knowledge in the subject, this session is suitable for first timers, seasoned herbal enthusiasts and experts. Please come with a clear pallet (avoid strong drinks or foods at least half an hour before event start time)’.

Highly Skilled Experienced full time Wild Tender/ Forager and Outdoor Mushroom Grower, Tasha Elena Stevens- Vallecillo founder of Land, Food and Medicine, will take you on a walk around the local landscape, touching, tasting and noticing the abundance of the food as medicine growing all around us.
Tasha's expertise lies in how to bare witness to and understand the eco-systems which gives rise to these plants and fungi beings, and how to sustainably harvest and use these foods. Either through processing, eating raw or cooking in meals. And for those who might be interested in growing wild foods, Tasha will happily touch on insights around how she approaches her wild tending practice and ways to cultivate wild foods at a scale that can make a livelihood, including working in different contexts of land stewardship.

Through this walk be invited to spend time connecting to the space, doing a check in, share what your deepest intentions are for the walk and hear from one another, this way we can create a welcoming and safe container where we intentionally hold space for one another and allow the walk to emerge from there. Tasha will touch on aspects of Celtic and other spiritual traditions in understanding both the spiritual and scientific implications of some of the foods, fungi and medicines. And explore what is alive in the space and available from the land in offer of support and how might be integrate these practices to improve, nutrition and senses of belonging and connection safely.

There is a blurred line between medicinal herbs, weeds, and plant foods in law and in life.
In fact, the same plant can be classified as a food, a supplement, a medicine, or an agricultural product, depending on the state it is in when you use it.
The law is long and boring but the fun part is to avoid complications by using plants as close to their natural state as possible. And to realise that we are surrounded by natural medicine in our shops, gardens, waysides, fields, and forests.
This session is about exploring the nutritional contents and active constituents of the medicinal herbs we also know as foods, and how to use them in a natural health regime.

Kirsten Hartvig ND, MNIMH, DipPhyt trained at the School of Herbal Medicine under Hein Zeylstra, and created the first Journal of Phytotherapy with him and David Potterton. She developed an interest in food as medicine and continued with a postgraduate training in naturopathy at the College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy. She has practiced and run health retreats in Denmark, France, and the UK. She is director of The Healing Garden natural health centre, college and biodynamic herb garden at Hoathly Hill in West Sussex, where she runs nature cure diploma courses with her husband, Nic Rowley.
Kirsten worked for the Danish Health Authority on herbal medicine legislation, and has written 14 books on food, nutrition, and natural health, including You Are What You Eat (with Nic Rowley) and, most recently, Food As Medicine (published by Aeon). She teaches herbal medicine and dietetics at the Nordic College of Natural Medicine, and developed the YouTube channel Herb Hunters (with Frances Hambly).

Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine prescribe formulae which are hundreds or thousands of years old and Ayurvedic practice similarly goes back into history for some of its recipes and approaches. In the UK, however, we seem to hear very little of Western Herbal Medicine’s ancient compounds, compared with the scientific evaluation of herbal medicines one by one, according to their pharmacology. Stemming from Graeme's historical study of Culpeper's translations of the first two editions of the London Pharmacopoeia, he will show a number of recipes from these texts which are usable today. Graeme will explore their composition and instructions for making them up and their indications for use. He will explain how he derived this shortlist from nearly 1,000 different compound remedies, exploring what limited my choice of formulations, what are simply illegal or dangerous and the comments which Culpeper appended to the usable ones which are now hundreds of years old.

Graeme an honorary research fellow at the University of Central lancashire, having taught there as senior lecturer for 24 years, leading the BSc Herbal Medicine and MSc Herbal Medicine programmes. He has retired from practice as a herbalist after 26 years, including a period in the NHS, but continues his research into herbal medicine. His extensive experience in higher education includes acting as final clinical examiner, course external examiner and curriculum advisor on several BSc Herbal Medicine programmes in the UK and Visiting Botanical Medicine Scholar at Bastyr University, USA in 2015. Graeme is the author of Culpeper’s Medicine (1997, 2nd edn 2013), lead author of The Western Herbal Tradition (2011, repub. 2015), and have written several book chapters and articles.

Join Natasha for a workshop to demonstrate how to make foraged condiments. Come along and discover how to make condiments such as a pickle, a chutney and a simple ferment. This is to promote my new book 'Foraged Condiments' published with Aeon Books.

Natasha is a medical herbalist, forager and mycotherapist. She works at Napiers and The Fife Arms in Braemar. She is the in house forager to the hotel where at the beginning in 2019 she created foraged condiments and cocktails in their kitchen for the guests and events which moved into regularly taking guests on foraging walks. She took part in the wildbiome project in 2023.

Natasha qualified in 2013 and has been in practice since then. Joining Napiers Claid clinic in 2022 and Napiers general clinic in 2023. She publishes her first book in June 2025 with Aeon books.

In this talk, Sian will explore the profound practice of working with plant spirits, focusing specifically on Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) as both a spiritual ally and a tool for transformation. We will begin by discussing what it means to connect with the spirit or energetic consciousness of plants, highlighting techniques such as meditation, journeying, offerings, and dreamwork to deepen our relationship with them. Mugwort, known for its association with the Moon and Venus , protection, and dream enhancement, will serve as a central example. Participants will learn practical strategies for working animistically with plant spirits in the same way as indigenous people have been working with them for millennia, however the western world has become far more mechanised in its view of the universe and as such has lost touch with these vital plant teachers.

The talk will also introduce the fascinating world of plant alchemy, focusing on the principles of separation, purification, and recombination. A live demonstration of the Soxhlet extraction method will provide insight into how to create potent Mugwort tinctures, merging the physical and spiritual aspects of the plant. Participants will see the process unfold step-by-step, learning the importance of infusing the alchemical work with mindfulness, gratitude, and intention to honour the plant spirit. Throughout the talk, we will emphasize the reciprocal nature of working with plant allies—building relationships rather than simply using plants as tools—and conclude with a guided Mugwort meditation to invite participants into a deeper connection. By blending spiritual techniques, alchemical practices, and practical applications, this talk offers a holistic approach to working with plant spirits as teachers, healers, and guides.

Sian Sibley MSc Applied Biology and Genetics, MA Ecology and Spirituality.Sian Sibley boasts over 35 years of dedicated practice. With an extensive background in both the mystical and the scientific, she holds master’s degrees in Biological Science and Ecology and Spirituality, blending her academic knowledge with her esoteric pursuits.
For the past 30 years, Sibley has led the DragonOak Coven, a testament to her practical experience and mentorship. Her leadership is characterised by a deep, spiritual connection with nature and the mystical arts, a philosophy that resonates with the occult community.
Also an author. Her books, such as "Unveiling the Green and Black Paths and Green Cathedrals, discuss the removal of nature from the human experience and how working with plant and tree spirits opens a doorway back into a more animistic universe and moves us away from the issues surrounding the mechanism of the universe, which has resulted in such catastrophe for our environment and ecology.
In her professional life, Sibley has worked extensively in scientific research, applying her knowledge of biological systems to both the academic and mystical aspects of her work. She has also spent years teaching, imparting her wisdom to students in both the fields of ecology and spirituality. During this session we will look at an introduction to biodynamic growing using the planting calendar. This method really allows you to contact to the seen and unseen energies that are all around us helping the plants and alchemist gardener to connect and have a deeper understanding what is needed in that moment.

Lesley's interest in health and wellbeing for well over 20+ years has allowed her to be curious on lots of related intertwined subjects, like biodynamic growing, permaculture design, and Ayurveda to highlight a few.

The studying, understanding and practice of these subjects has lead her to work with many company's, community groups and individuals introducing these fascinating subjects and techniques along side the emerging new biology .

At this moment in time Lesley is the lead gardener and wellness coach at Osnosh CIC in Oswestry, and lead gardener at Babbinswood farm community garden again in Oswestry.
