News Articles

We are delighted to welcome Aeon Books as a Friend of the Institute.

Aeon Books is an independent publisher of interesting books with a focus on botanical medicine. It was established by two practising Medical Herbalists with backgrounds in publishing and journalism, with the aim to publish and promote the best writing in contemporary complementary medicine.

Established in 2018, Aeon supports herbalists and herbal medicine by recording the expertise of practitioners and distributing their work across the globe. Their books cover the spectrum of practice, from foraging and medicine making to foundational texts and technical guides on subjects such as reproductive and digestive health. They are committed to raising the profile of herbal medicine, and herbalists, through the sharing of knowledge.

James Wiltshire, Chief Executive of the Institute, commented “The ability to share the wisdom of herbalists from the past and the present is critical to growing the knowledge and understanding within herbalism. The team at Aeon are not only preventing millennia of herbal knowledge from being lost, but also sharing the expertise of modern herbalists with new audiences, and we are delighted to celebrate our shared commitment to engaging people with everything herbs and herbal medicine have to offer as Friends.”

Oliver Rathbone, who founded Aeon with Melinda McDougall, added ‘We are delighted to cement our Friendship with the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. Our shared ambitions of promoting and preserving herbal knowledge and establishing a wider audience for the profession mean we are aligned in our mission. We look forward to forging our alliance and working together to achieve our mutual aims.
