About us and how to join

We have operated a register for professional medical herbalists for over 100 years, and are the largest body of herbal practitioners in the UK. The organisation has a long and illustrious history. It was first conceived in 1864 and was formally registered as the National Association of Medical Herbalists, becoming the National Institute in 1954, when the Secretary of State approved our level of expertise to use this protected title. Today the Institute has members throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.

Are you interested in joining the Institute? Whether you have already qualified, are still studying herbalism, work with plants, or have a general interest in the power of plants, we would love to welcome you to our amazing herbal community.
