FELLOWSHIP CRITERIA

Nominations to the Institute’s Council to elect a Member as  Fellow of the National Institute of Medical Herbalist can be made at any time. Fellowships are awarded to Members who have made a notable contribution to herbal medicine and/or the work of the Institute, and the Council will use the criteria below to assess any applications.
Assessment criteria:
  • Has the nominee been central to innovative discovery or the application of knowledge in a ground-breaking way
  • Has the nominee’s work as a herbalist made a substantial impact on widening public access to herbal medicine.
  • Has the nominee made a significant contribution to building the reputation of the herbal profession beyond the herbal community.
  • Has the nominee meaningfully increased access to and uptake of herbal medicine by the public
  • Has the nominee made a significant contribution to a community, and been a driver of positive change
  • Has the nominee driven the development of the herbal profession, developing its standing outside of the herbal community
  • Has the nominee made a sustained contribution to scholarship or education
  • Has the nominee produced a notable body of work that will have been disseminated, for example,
    • in a body of publications
    • in teaching materials
    • in educational documents
    • in political documents
  • Has the nominee provided leadership to the profession through a substantive contribution to the work of the Institute
  • Has the nominee driven the advancement of the public understanding of the herbal profession
