Joining the Institute

How you can join us

Joining us as an individual

We have operated a voluntary register for professional medical herbalists since 1864, and are recognised across the world for our high professional standards.

As well as joining us as a Member, we have ways for you to become part of our amazing herbal community, whether you are studying herbalism, work with plants, or have a general interest in the power of plants.

Qualified or practising herbalists are, subject to our entry criteria, able to become a Member of the Institute, and join the oldest and largest professional register of medical herbalists in the world. Whether you have qualified on an accredited course, or via a different route, we’d love to hear from you.

Anyone can become a supporter – you may be an academic, a horticulturalist, a botanist or you just have an interest in herbs and herbal medicine? By becoming a supporter you are helping to support our work to create a world where herbalists provide a recognised and valued healthcare option.

Those studying herbal medicine are a vital part of the future of our profession, and as such any student who is enrolled on a substantive course is eligible to join the Institute, and can then access the same benefits as Members, but at a nominal cost of just £30 per year.

The Associate category creates greater exposure and recognition for those who choose to work with medicinal plants. We hope that this will enable the sharing of knowledge across different parts of our community, and that it may inspire other plant and planet lovers to deepen their herbal knowledge.

Joining us as an ORGANISATION

We also welcome businesses and other organisations as Supporters, .

If you are a business working in or around the herbal profession, why not support our work to create a world where herbalists provide a recognised and valued healthcare option. You will support world class herbal education, and you’ll be helping us to ensure that people have access to high quality registered herbalists. With your help we can raise the profile of herbal medicine, take part in research to advance herbal medicine and we can help sustain herbalism for the future.
